Dorothy Alice Vail Campbell was born to James O. and Grace M. Vail on Jan. 25, 1915 in Greeley, CO, the youngest of seven children. She died on April 2, 2009 in Fort Smith, Arkansas, where she was being cared for by her daughter, Sue Gaines of Van Buren, Arkansas. Soon after her birth, the family moved back to their roots in Garden Grove, Iowa. Dorothy was raised there and graduated from Garden Grove High School in 1933. Her brother James' best friend, Bud, became the "love of her life". She and Bud were happily married for sixty-three years until his death on Oct. 4, 1996. To this union six children were born. They are Gary, Dan, Sue, Penny, Steve and Brad. Dorothy and Bud moved to Ashland in January, 1945 where they owned and operated Farmers Produce which was later renamed Campbell Farm Supply. Dorothy helped Bud operate the feed and seed business until their retirement in the late 1980's.

Dorothy was an active member of the community. She was a longtime member of the Ashland United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, church choir director, and church soloist. She was a member of the P.E.O. sisterhood for 75 years, having been initiated into Chapter T, Garden Grove, Iowa on June 20, 1933. At the time of her death she was a member of Chapter BD, Ashland, Nebraska. Dorothy was a Girl Scout leader, Mother Advisor for Assembly #19 Order of the Rainbow for Girls, Past Matron and past District Supervisor of Matthews Chapter 242, Order of the Eastern Star where she was a member with her husband, Bud, since the 1940's. Dorothy used her creative talents in Junior Women's Club to put on skits and musicals for the community. She was an avid bridge player, and a not so avid fisherman with Bud.

She leaves to mourn her passing, six children and spouses, Gary and Mary Campbell, Rawlins, WY, Daniel and Paulette Campbell, Maricopa, AZ, Karen Sue Gaines, Van Buren, AR, Penelope and Jerry Stewart, Greenwood, NE, Stephen and Cindy Campbell, Ashland, and Bradley Campbell, Lincoln, NE, twenty grandchildren, thirty-eight great grandchildren, twenty-six great great grandchildren and many friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jesse Hugh (Bud) Campbell, her parents, all six siblings and three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Dorothy was a gracious, quick witted, spirited lady with a grand sense of humor and will be missed by all who knew her.

Pallbearers are Cathy Benene, Teri Birk, SMSgt. Kimberly Gaines, Mark Stewart, Eric Sherman and Chelsea Campbell.
