Kevin died at Tabitha in Lincoln after a courageous
battle with cancer. He was born to Harlan and Marthena (Konkel)
DeGarmo. Because of his dad's work, he lived in Kansas, New Mexico,
California and Nebraska. He graduated from Elmwood High School in
1981. He attended Nebraska Christian College and then joined the U.S.
Air Force, serving from 1982 to 1986. Kevin met Jan Wright and they
were married in July of 1985. In 1997, they were blessed with their
son, Alexander Aaron DeGarmo. Kevin was a bench carpenter, building
custom and specialty finished wood products for Hyland Brothers Lumber
and Millard Lumber Company and, later, Mike May Custom Homes. He
joined the Elmwood Rescue Squad in 1990 and later joined the Greenwood
Rescue Squad in 1996. He joined the Red Cross First Aid Team in 1992.
Kevin was a member of Capitol City Christian Church, served as captain
of the Greenwood Rescue Squad, member of the Greenwood Fire
Department, Commander of American Legion Post No. 173 and was
Assistant Stadium Coordinator for the Red Cross First Aid Team at
Memorial Stadium.
Pallbearers for funeral service are Mike Keralis,
Myron Fausnaut, Greg Kokes, Bob Walters, Marty Proctor, Dave Whitney,
Greg Stubblefield and Darrell Brewster. Funeral service officiated by
Rev. Bill Thornton.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Jan, son, Alex, Greenwood; mother,
Marthena DeGarmo, Elmwood; brothers, sisters-in-law, Brian and
Rachelle DeGarmo, Eric and Liz DeGarmo, all of Lincoln; sister,
brother-in-law, Dedra and Eric Russell, Dixon, Calif.; aunts, uncles,
nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harlan DeGarmo.
