Clyde
was the sixth child of William and Etta (Miller) Jones. He
attended a rural school near South Bend through the eighth grade.
During his younger years, Clyde was an enthusiastic hunter and
fisherman. He was united in marriage to Ruth L. Holliday on November
5, 1941 in Wahoo, Nebraska. Clyde entered the United States Navy on
Nov. 19, 1942 and served during World War II on several naval supply
ships in the Atlantic. He received duties which also included
operating the ships gunnery, and was honorably discharged on October
9, 1945 as a Seaman, First Class, V6 USNR. After the war, he returned
to farm in the South Bend area for nine years. In 1955, Clyde and
Ruth moved to their home in Ashland where he worked for the Rock
Quarry, operating the crusher. Clyde also was employed for the State
of Nebraska at the Greenwood Interchange Scale as an officer and
worked at Campbell’s Farm Supply Store in Ashland.
Clyde and Ruth retired in 1978 and moved to
Florida where they enjoyed fishing and all the citrus crops for twelve
years. To be closer to family, they moved to Mt. Vernon, MO, where
they stayed for eighteen years. Recently, they moved back to the
Ashland area.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents;
brothers Clinton, John, Lester, Lloyd; sisters Mildred, Hazel, Blanche,
Mary, Pearl and Doris.
He is survived by his wife Ruth of 67 years,
and brother in law Ben Bornman and many nieces and nephews.
