Mary Ellen Miller, 88, Lincoln, formerly Ashland,
Nebraska died Friday (11-06-2009) at Tabitha Home in Lincoln,
Nebraska. Mary Ellen was born on May
3, 1921 in Mason City, Nebraska to John Otto and Lucy Alice (Mathis)
Erickson. Her family moved to the Waverly, Nebraska area where she
graduated in 1938. Mary Ellen attended the University of
Nebraska-Lincoln for 2 years, and in 2003, Mary Ellen was
noted for her achievement graduating from Grace University in Omaha
with an Associates Degree in Biblical Studies and Evangelism.
Mary Ellen was united in
marriage to Victor A. Miller on June 20, 1943 at her parents home in
Waverly. She lived in several areas while Victor was in the
service. Later, they moved north of Eagle to a farm, then to Murdock
and finally to the Ashland area in 1948. Victor and Mary Ellen
operated an insurance agency where she was an agent. She retired
from there in 1989.
She was an active
member of the Ashland United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women,
Friendly Neighbors Group and the Ashland Garden Club. She
held various offices at the church. Mary Ellen was a
former member of the Ashland Grange, Ashland Amateur Radio Club and
was also an avid 4-H Leader. Over the years, she
enjoyed crocheting, doing quilts and gardening.
Mary Ellen was preceded in
death by her husband Victor A. Miller, sister Margaret Fleischmann,
brother Russell Erickson and parents.
She is
survived by her son and daughter in law Marvin (Cheryl) Miller,
Bellevue; Daughters and sons in law Carol (Ross) McCall, Ashland;
Debra (John) McNaught, Alvo, NE; Grandchildren Dawn (Scott)Wagner,
Omaha; Kyle (Sarah) Miller, Omaha; Elizabeth McNaught, Bellevue;
Anthony McNaught, Honolulu, HI. Great Grandchildren
Zachary, Joshua, Jacob, emily Wagner, Victoria McNaught and Kade
Miller; nieces and nephews.
