Hazel Joyce Rice

Hazel Joyce Rice was born to John W. and Lily A. (Linville) Miner. She passed away at the home of her daughter in Lincoln on at the age of 83 years. When she was very young, her family moved to Kansas briefly and then to Brownville, NE and Louisville, NE. Hazel attended schools in Gretna and Louisville. She married David Dale Benedict on February 11, 1945 in Kansas. Hazel was a homemaker raising her family and also worked various jobs.

On October 6, 1956, she married Jeremy H. Rice in Valley, NE. They made their home in Ashland where Hazel continued raising a family. She became a custodian at Ashland-Greenwood elementary and middle school in 1971. She moved over to the high school in 1978 and retired from the school in 1997. After that, she worked for one year with her daughter, Joyce, at Active Care in Ashland. Hazel lived in her own home until just one month ago, when she went to live with Joyce in Lincoln because of failing health.

Hazel leaves behind her daughters, Joyce and husband Rick Goering, Lincoln, NE, Cindy and husband Michael Beaver, Coeur d'Alene, ID, her sons, Jeremy H. Rice and friend Kenijane Danner, Ashland, NE, Jimmy Dean and Marie Rice, Ashland, 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband Jeremy H. Rice, sisters Ivy Miner, Rosie Leslie, Bertha Gorham, brothers John, Freddie, Donald, James and Orville Miner.
