Donald was born to Jesse and Maude (Van Allen) Sims
and grew up in Memphis and Ashland. He
attended school in Memphis. Donald enlisted in the US Army on November
10, 1942 and served until being discharged on September 19, 1946. He
was united in marriage to Loraine Echtenkamp on July 8, 1943 in
Leavenworth, KS. After serving in the army, Don and Loraine made their
home in Ashland. Don began to build a career as a self employed
carpenter and built many homes in the Ashland area. He was also a
rural postal carrier for many years. In 1965, they bought the White
Way Bar in Ashland which they operated for twenty years. Don was a
member of the Ashland American Legion Post #129.
He is survived by daughters Nancy Misek, Buchanan Dam, TX, Kathy
Miller, Laurie Hofmeister, both Ashland, Julie Zaloudek, Pekin, IL,
sons Ron, Fullerton, NE, Larry, Ceresco, NE, Alan, Lincoln, NE, and
Loren, Ashland, 29 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, four
sisters, preceded in death by wife Loraine, brothers and sisters.
