Donald was born to Ray and Bernice (Moffitt)
Washburn. He attended school in Wann and Ashland and was a
member of the Ashland High School class of 1941. On June 2, 1944 in
Elkhorn, NE, Don married Merna Bargstadt. He graduated from the
Iowa School of Auctioneering in 1950. He was a veteran of the US Army,
Past Commander of the Ashland American Legion Post 129 and the
Saunders County American Legion, member of 40 et 8, and Ashland
American Legion Post 129.
Don was a former Semi-Pro baseball player and played in the Pioneer
Night League of Nebraska. He was an avid husker fan and loved the
Atlanta Braves. Don was Ashland Stirrup King in 1987.
He was an owner and manager of many local businesses, most recently
auctioneering and real estate for DW Reality and Auction Service of
Ashland, NE. Don was a member of the American Lutheran Church of
Ashland.
Preceded in death by his wife Merna, 3 brothers Dorwin, Guilford and
Delmer, sister, Annabelle Kirchman, brothers in law and sisters in
law.
Survived by his children and spouses, Dan and Kathy Washburn of
Gretna, NE. Doug and Barb Washburn of Ashland, Donald Scott Washburn
of Las Vegas, NV, Bev and Mark Hohensee and Shari and David Nygren all
of Ashland, NE. 10 grandchildren, Andrew Washburn, Nicholas Hohensee,
Joshua Hohensee, Brandon Nygren, Shaun Washburn, Kelsie Nygren,
Katelyn Nygren, Kelli Hohensee, Amanda Washburn, Laurie Goodwin, 2
sister in laws, Jeanine Washburn, Clovis, CA, Charlene Patton,
Norfolk, NE a brother in law, Lester and his wife Leona Bargstadt,
Norfolk, NE, special friend, Evelyn Turner, Yutan, nieces, nephews,
relatives and friends.
