Betty Blanche Chesley

Betty Blanche Chesley was born August 24, 1936 in Peterson, Iowa to Lou and Blanche (Bailey) Rohrbaugh. She attended elementary school in Peterson and graduated from Peterson High School in 1954. After graduation she worked at the Peterson State Bank. On Mar. 5, 1957, Betty was united in marriage to Jim Chesley in Sutherland, Iowa. They lived in Key West, Florida for two years while Jim was in the Navy. They moved back to Iowa and lived in Peterson and Cherokee. They lived in Hereford, Texas for one year and in 1971, they moved to Greenwood, Nebraska which has been their home ever since. Betty worked at the Uptown Saloon in Greenwood for several years. She then worked at Telex Communications in Lincoln for many years, retiring from there in 2002. Following that she enjoyed working as a substitute in the Ashland Greenwood School Cafeteria. Betty passed away on Jan. 13, 2010 at St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 73 years. Betty had been a member of the Greenwood Methodist Church and the Ladies Circle, a member of Friends of the Library in Greenwood and she had served as a Cub Scout Leader.

Betty is survived by her husband Jim, children and spouses, Mary Nicholson, Kathy and Randy Beranek, all of Ashland, NE, Tony and Melissa Chesley, Greenwood, Jim Jr. and Sheri Chesley, LaVista, NE, and Ed and Julie Chesley of Lincoln, 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, twin brother Bill and his wife Carolyn Rohrbaugh, Sutherland, IA, sisters and brother in law, Shirley and Dave Olson, Phyllis McDaniel, all of Peterson, IA, and Pat Miller of Omaha, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Jim Rohrbaugh.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Waverly First United Methodist Church in Waverly, NE. There will be a gathering of family and friends on Friday, from 6 – 8:00 PM at Marcy Chapel in Ashland, NE. Honorary Bearers are: Jason, Cortney, Keri and Carly Nicholson, Jeremy, Eric, Curtis and Daniel Beranek, Justin and Logan Chesley, Drew Chesley and all the great grandchildren. Memorials to the Greenwood Public Library, Greenwood United Methodist Church or the Greenwood Fire Department.
