Phyllis M. Erickson

Phyllis M. Erickson was born at Ashland, NE on October 6, 1926 to Merton and Margaret (Harned) Erickson. She attended country schools in Cass and Saunders Counties and later graduated from Ashland High School. She attended Nebraska Wesleyan University where she obtained a teaching certificate. Phyllis taught at several rural Cass County schools.

On August 26, 1945, she was united in marriage to Everett M. Erickson at the Ashland Methodist Church. They lived on their farm near Greenwood where Phyllis raised their three children, David, Wayne and Lynn. She was active in helping with all the farm work including driving the truck and the tractors. She also worked at Western Electric in Omaha for two years in the early 1960’s, and worked as a nurses aide at the Ambassador in Lincoln. She continued to live on the farm until October of this year when she became ill.

Phyllis died at St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center on December 23, 2010 at the age of 84. She had been a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, the Sew  n’ Sews Quilting Organization and formerly a member of the Good Luck Extension Club. Phyllis loved quilting and made quilts for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was always busy with cooking and baking. In recent years, she enjoyed meeting with her friends for coffee and lunch in Waverly and Greenwood.

Phyllis is survived by her sons and daughters in law David (Lois) Erickson,  Wayne (Joyce) Erickson; daughter and son in law Lynn (Clifford) Thelen; grandchildren and spouses, Becky (Eric) Schroeder, Jed (Deanne) Erickson, Zach Thelen, Bryce (Lindsay) Erickson, Lia (Nathan) Raube, Sara Thelen, Amy Thelen; nine great grandchildren; special friends, Ellis Bockelman and Phyllis Buell. She was preceded in death by her husband Everett Erickson and an infant child.
