Daryl E. Hanson was born September 4, 1926 at Colon, NE to Merle and
Mildred (Ecklund) Hanson. His family moved to a farm near Memphis,
NE when he was very young and Daryl attended District #6 School
and then Memphis Public School through the tenth grade. He later
graduated from Wahoo High School.
Daryl entered the US Army on June 9, 1945 and served in the US
Calvary at Ft. Bradley, KS. He was honorably discharged Nov. 11,
1946. On June 14, 1952, he was united in marriage to LaVaughn
Edstrom at the Ashland Methodist Church. They lived in Ashland for
a few years, then on a farm north of Memphis, and also near
Ithaca, NE before moving to their farm west of Ashland where they
have resided for the last 45 years.
Daryl was a grain and livestock producer his whole life. He was
a 60 year member of the American Legion Post #129, an Archer Oil
Dealer for 50 years, an FSA Board member for 40 years and a former
president of Districts #3 and #6 school boards.
He is survived by wife LaVaughn; children and spouses
Leigh Hanson, Omaha, NE, Jenel and Maury Rogers, Dale and Katy
Hanson, Steven and Tonya Hanson, all of Ashland; grandchildren
Christy, Tessa, Sami Jo, Jeremy, James, Travis, Tonya, Tanner,
Shane, Cara and Michelle; 21 great grandchildren; brothers,
sisters in law Donald and Darlene Hanson, Wahoo, NE, Larry and
LaJean Hanson, Waverly, IA.
Preceded in death by parents, son Dean,
grandsons Justin and Harley, brother Bernard, sister Darlene
Christensen.
