Lila R. Hite was born December 27, 1910 in Eagle, NE to Clifton O. and Laura A. (Wachter) Wright. She was born on the Wright homestead and at the age of about 2 she moved with her parents to Eagle. Lila was a graduate of Eagle High School in 1929. She continued to live in Eagle with her parents until the time of her marriage. She married Floyd J. Hite on December 18, 1935 in Lincoln, NE.  They lived in Louisville, NE where Floyd was employed by Nebraska Power Company, which later became Omaha Public Power District. From Louisville, the couple made their home in Weeping Water, for 15 years, and then in 1952 came to live in Ashland where Floyd was the manager for OPPD until his retirement in 1972. When Floyd died in 2003, they had been married for 67 years. She continued to live at her home until about a year ago when she moved to the Ashland Care Center because of failing health. She died at the Ashland Care Center on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010 just 4 months short of 100 years of age. Lila had many hobbies and being able to share them with her many friends brought much pleasure to her. After Floyd retired, the couple was able to combine their interests and share their hobbies by making elaborate miniatures. Lila had served the community as Past President of the Ashland Federated Women’s Club, Past President of Chapter B.D.-P.E.O., a long time member of the Congregational Women’s Fellowship as well as a Past Secretary for that organization. She was a member of the Past Matrons O.E.S. and served 15 years on the Ashland Library Board as well as serving as a Past President of the board. Lila also was a Past Matron of Elizabeth Chapter #250 O.E.S. of Weeping Water and a 60 year member of that chapter.

Lila is survived by two nieces, Bonnie Conacher and husband Jim of Vancouver, Canada, and Lavore Amgwert of Lincoln, NE; several great and great great nephews and nieces; cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by husband Floyd J. Hite, and infant brother Howard and an infant sister Ruth.
