Edward E. Mayer, age 87 of Beaver Lake, NE, died March 30, 2010 in Omaha at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. He was born in Ashland, NE on September 22, 1922 to Edward and Mabelle (Smith) Mayer. Edward grew up in Ashland and graduated from Ashland High School. Following high school, he served in the US Navy during World War II. On Mar. 6, 1944, Edward was united in marriage to Betty Noble at the First Presbyterian Church in Omaha. Edward worked for the Martin Bomber Plant for a few years and then worked briefly for Burlington Railroad. After that he began a long career working for Northwestern Bell Company and retired from there. Ed and Betty have been residents of the Beaver Lake community since 1981. He was a member of the Murray Christian Church, the Dormant Club of Beaver Lake (charter member) and the Ashland American Legion Post #129.

Edward is survived by his wife Betty; daughters and sons in law, Carol and Roy Cundiff, Long Beach, CA, Terry Irby, Beaver Lake, Beverly and Richard Anderson, Omaha; son Charles Mayer, Omaha; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sister and brother in law Barbara and Bill Badsteen, Ord, NE. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Elvida Schlicker and Mary Bornman.

Funeral Service: Saturday, April 3, 2010, 10:30 AM at Murray Christian Church, Pastor Larry Hammons, clergy. Interment: Ashland Cemetery. Visitation: Friday, 4:00 – 8:00 PM with family greeting friends 5:00 – 7:00 PM all at the church. Also one hour visitation before the service Saturday.
