Orville L. McVay, age 82, was a resident of
Ashland, NE. He passed away at home in Ashland on July 3, 2010.
Orville was born in Ogallala, NE on July 19, 1927 to Lawson and Frieda
(Sauer) McVay. He grew up in Sutherland, NE where he attended
elementary and high school. He participated in track, football and
basketball on the state champion teams of that time. Orville joined
the US Army and was a paratrooper, being honorably discharged in 1947.
He then began a 42 year career with Union Pacific Railroad, retiring
in 1986. Orville worked in the Omaha to Columbus area and was a
supervisor in the signal department. He had lived in the Omaha
area for many years and had been living in North Platte, NE the last
eight years with his wife Dorothy. Orville loved to go fishing.
Orville was preceded in death by brothers Donald and Richard McVay.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy McVay, North Platte, NE; sons and
daughters in law John McVay, Omaha, Jim and Barbara McVay, Missouri
Valley, IA, Tom and Theora McVay, Ashland, NE, and Jeff McVay, Omaha;
six grandsons; seven great grandchildren; brothers Bob McVay, Denver,
CO, Alvin (Trudy) McVay, Sterling, CO, Marvin (Pam) McVay, Denver, CO;
many nieces and nephews.
