Violette E. Swartz, age 90 of
Greenwood, NE died Saturday, May 8, 2010 at St. Elizabeth Regional
Medical Center in Lincoln, NE. She was born April 4, 1920 in Colome,
South Dakota to Bohumil and Marie (Hambek) Novak. Violette grew up
near Colome and graduated from Colome High School. She obtained her
teaching certificate and was a schoolteacher at a country school for
several years. On June 14, 1943, she was united in marriage to
Thomas Leonard Swartz in Valentine, NE. Violette and Thomas had two
children, Rosemary and Darrell. They lived in South Dakota for a few
years and moved to Hastings, NE. In 1956 they moved to Lincoln, NE
where Violette worked at Russell Stovers for several years. They
moved to Greenwood in 1969 where Violette has resided ever since.
Violette loved to play cards, Canasta, Pitch, Gin, Golf and many
others to name a few. She enjoyed playing cribbage and doing
crossword puzzles. She also was an avid reader and she used to raise
a garden and do a lot of canning. She had been a parishioner at St.
Joseph Catholic Church in Greenwood.
Violette is survived by her son
and daughter in law, Darrell and Diane Swartz, Greenwood, daughter
and son in law Rosemary and Fred Martin, Walton, NE; grandchildren
Vicki (Ron) Finney, Amy (Jeff) Bolich, Thomas (Amy) Swartz, all of
Lincoln; great grandchildren Zachary and Austin Finney, Kayla, Noah
and Nicholas Bolich, Ethan Swartz; many nieces and nephews. Violette
was preceded in death by husband Thomas Leonard Swartz, parents,
eight brothers and sisters.
