Jerome was born to Charles and Marie (McMahon) and graduated from Fremont High School in1938. He entered the US Army on Dec. 27, 1943 and served in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was separated from the Army on Jan. 15, 1946 and received the Meritorious Service Unit Plaque, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, WW II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.  When he returned home, he began to work at his father's business, Breunig Rendering Plant, in Wahoo. He and his three brothers operated the business for many years until Jerome retired n 1985. Jerome was united in marriage to Joyce Vervaecke on May 11, 1976.  He was the charter president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, served on St. Francis Cemetery Board and was a member of the Wahoo Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squads, Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion Post #82, VFW Post #4502, Hilltop Country Club, Knights of Columbus and the Lions Club. He also served on the first committee to purchase school buses for Wahoo Catholic Schools and he and Monsignor Herbek picked up the first one with Gold Bond stamps. He was a parishoner at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
 
Preceded in death by his parents, brother Joe Breunig, sister Margaret Lapour, sister in law Norma Breunig, brothers in law Jack David and Leonard Coufal, son in law Bruce Anderson.
 
Survived by his wife Joyce,  children and spouses, Jerel and Pat Geren, Central City, NE, Charles and Nancy Breunig, Hastings, NE, Jean Starks, Norfolk, NE, stepchildren Kristi Vervaecke, Iowa City, IA, Karen Vervaecke, Marco Island, FL, Julie (Tom) Murren, Omaha, NE, grandchildren, Patricia (Bob) Milfajt, Rome (Cathy) Geren, Rube Geren, Matthew (Tyler) Breunig, Andrea (Nikolai) Fras, Erin Fendrick and Natalie Fendrick, step grandchildren, Ben, Emily and Andrew Schrepf, Darci (Andy) Lervis, Danette Huff, Andrew, Brooke and Megan Murren, 3 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, 2 step great grandchildren, brothers and sisters in law, Richard and Reenie Breunig, Eugene and Berneta Breunig, Helen Breunig, Jean (Bob) Jenson, Joan Coufal, Janet (Jim) Christensen, nieces, nephews and many friends.
