Betty I. Benes died at the Saunders Medical Center
in Wahoo. She was born near Brainard, Nebraska to Adolph
and Mary (Tejral) Komenda. Betty attended a country school near
Brainard. When WW II began, she worked at the Ordinance Plant near
Mead, NE. On Oct. 6, 1945, she was united in marriage to George F.
Benes at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Brainard by Monsignor Klein.
They lived on a farm just south of Wahoo the first four years of
marriage and then moved to a farm south of Ceresco, where they farmed.
Betty worked raising chickens, gardening and canning and doing many
farm chores and was known for baking angel food cakes. They later
retired and moved to Wahoo. Betty was a parishioner at St. Wenceslaus
Catholic Church, a member of Altar Rosary Society and St. Ludmilla
Guild, and a former parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church in Davey.
Betty is survived by sisters Dorothy (Howard) Novotny, Valparaiso,
Nebraska, Agnes Benes, Wahoo, sisters in law, Glee Komenda, Brainard,
Rose Komenda, Wahoo and Anna Bouc, Lincoln, Nebraska, many nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by husband George F. Benes,
sisters, Helen Tejral, Julia Kliment and Marie Skokan, brothers
Adolph, Anton and Ted Komenda.
