Ewalt was born on the family farm east of Ithaca, NE, Oct. 3, 1930 to Ewalt H. and Nettie (Hanke) Hageman. He attended District 50 School in Ithaca and graduated from Wahoo High School in 1948. After high school he attended Luther College in Wahoo. Ewalt married Judith Richards on May 20, 1956 in Fullerton, NE. To this union was born a daughter Kay. She preceded him in death December 20, 1963. On February 24, 1968, he married Lillian Delameter at Southview Baptist Church in Lincoln, NE. Two sons, Dennis and Brett later joined the family by adoption. 

Ewalt accepted the Lord as his savior as a young teenager. Throughout his lifetime Ewalt served his community and church in various capacities. He served on the Ithaca Farmers Union Co-op Board, the school board of District 50, Child Evangelism Fellowship local and state boards and Gideon International. He was a Sunday school teacher, Awana and youth leader and trustee. At the time of his death he was serving his church as a deacon and an usher which he especially enjoyed.

Ewalt worked at the Nebraska Ordinance Plant near Mead, NE and later at a packing plant in Omaha before joining his father full time in the farming operation. Along with farming he also operated a Grade A dairy business for many years.

Preceded in death by parents, first wife Judith, infant son, sister Carol Negley.

Survived by wife Lillian, daughter and son in law Susan and Brad Nichols, all of Ithaca, sons and daughter in law, Dennis and Sherry Hageman, Overton, NE, Brett Hageman, Lincoln, NE, four grandchildren, Amanda Harvey and Travis, Corey Hageman and Jessica all of Overton, Jacob and Amy Nichols of Ithaca, two great grandchildren, Carson and Paetyn, sister and brother in law, Annette and Mauritz Swanson, Silver Springs, MD, nieces and nephews.
