Helen Jeromila (Kubik) Hakel was born on a farm
near Prague, Nebraska, and was the daughter of Charles and Anna
(Kavan) Kubik. Early in 1941 the family moved to the town of Prague.
On May 12, 1941, Helen married Max Adolph Hakel of Valparaiso,
Nebraska, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Prague. Their
marriage was blessed with four children; Trina, Jerome, Ronald and
Charles. They had observed 33 years of marriage when Max lost his life
in an automobile crash on March 17, 1975.
Helen received her education at country school district #84 and Prague
High School. As a young lady, Helen was part of a small musical group
called Alf's Merrymakers and played the piano accordion along with
other instrumentalists who provided music for many local events. Helen
and Max operated a dairy farm near Valparaiso for many years. She
engaged in gardening and needlework in addition to the duties of a
homemaker. Helen was a member of Sts. Mary & Joseph Catholic Church
since 1941. She was active in St. Mary & Joseph Altar Society as well
as the Valparaiso Women's club, serving each organization as president
for two years. In recent years she had been a resident of South Haven
in Wahoo, Nebraska.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Max, parents Charles and
Anna Kubik, sister Irene Wesely and brothers Raymond and William Kubik.
Surviving to cherish Helen's memory are her children and spouses,
Trina and Tony Kroenke, Jerome and Jean Hakel, Ronald Hakel and
Charles Hakel, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, nieces
and nephews. We are blessed with many wonderful memories of Helen. She
will always be in our thoughts and prayers.
