Gertrude was born to Joseph and Anna (Maruska) Novacek. She and her
family moved from White Earth to East Grand Forks, MN while she was very
young. Trudy helped her father with farm work including herding cows. She
attended rural school through the eighth grade, then her father felt she
needed to go to work. She did housework for neighbors as a hired girl, and
that is where she met her future husband who was a hired man. Trudy was
united in marriage to Edward Hamre in East Grand Forks, MN on January 22,
1938. Ed and Trudy moved to rural Bagley, MN and bought timberland where
they both worked to cut wood to sell to a local mill for lumber. Later they
moved into Bagley where she worked at a bakery for 17 years. In 1959, they
moved to Omaha, NE. Trudy managed a mobile home park for many years. Not
long after her husband died, she moved to Wahoo. She moved into the Saunders
County Care Center in January of 1997. She has been a member of Bethlehem
Lutheran Church since living in Wahoo.
