Gertrude was born to Joseph and Anna (Maruska) Novacek.  She and her family moved from White Earth to East Grand Forks, MN while she was very young. Trudy helped her father with farm work including herding cows. She attended rural school through the eighth grade, then her father felt she needed to go to work. She did housework for neighbors as a hired girl, and that is where she met her future husband who was a hired man. Trudy was united in marriage to Edward Hamre in East Grand Forks, MN on January 22, 1938. Ed and Trudy moved to rural Bagley, MN and bought timberland where they both worked to cut wood to sell to a local mill for lumber. Later they moved into Bagley where she worked at a bakery for 17 years. In 1959, they moved to Omaha, NE. Trudy managed a mobile home park for many years. Not long after her husband died, she moved to Wahoo. She moved into the Saunders County Care Center in January of 1997. She has been a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church since living in Wahoo.

Preceded in death by her husband Edward Hamre, son Donald Hamre, son in law Lowell Bohn, brother Joseph Novacek.

Survived by her sons and daughters in law, Glenn and Pat Hamre, Blair, NE, Gene and Barbara Hamre, Dallas, TX, daughter Pat Bohn, Wahpeton, N.D., daughter in law Roberta Hamre, Arlington, NE, 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, brothers, Jim and Tony Novacek, MN, sisters Katie Patterson, MN, Celia Bialke, CO.
