Fred was born  to Joseph J. and Emma A. (Wesely) Houfek.  He  attended District #85 Country School and later graduated from Prague High School in 1941. He married Dorothy Ann Trutna on Sept. 12, 1948 in Wahoo. Fred farmed near Prague until 1960 when they moved to a farm near Wahoo. He actively farmed until his retirement in 1999. During this time he planted and cared for many trees. Fred collected many International tractors, large and small, along with antique farm equipment. He was also known for his singing ability and could sing in the Czech language. Fred sang at more than 600 funerals during his life. He was a lifetime member of the Prague Presbyterian Church where he served in numerous offices.

Preceded in death by wife Dorothy, parents, brothers Raymond and Richard Houfek.

Survived by son and daughter in law, Larry and Kim Houfek, daughter Lenice Houfek, grandchildren John and Laura Houfek, all of Wahoo, many nieces and nephews.
