Edwin was born to August and Mary (Matousek) Kucera.
He attended School District #113 west of Weston, NE. When he was
finished going to school he worked on the farm helping his father. On
Nov. 20, 1945, he was married to Marie Ratkovec at St. Vitus Catholic
Church in Touhy. They made their home on a farm west of Weston, NE
that was homesteaded by his grandfather Frederick Kucera. There, Edwin
was a grain farmer and raised cattle and hogs for many years. He was
also a Cargill Seed dealer and worked at Hakel's Truck Stop in Weston
from 1963 to 1971. Edwin retired from farming in 1984 and moved to
Valparaiso in 1999. He had been a resident at Saunders County Care
Center in Wahoo since May of 2008. Edwin was a parishioner of St.
Vitus Church and served as the President of School District #113 and
#74 for 30 years.
Edwin is preceded in death by parents, infant son Dwain, brothers
Albin and Gustaf Kucera, sisters Evelyn Maly and Margaret Maly.
Edwin is survived by his wife Marie, Valparaiso, daughters, sons in
law, Sharon and Dan Spicka, Wahoo, NE, Sandy and John Vlcan, Fremont,
NE, son Gary Kucera, Weston, NE, granddaughters Mary Spicka and Lori
Hattan, five great grandchildren, three nieces.
