Catherine Caroline was born to Anton and Alice (Hines) Hobza.  Katie lived in the dormitory of St. Wenceslaus School while she went to school there through the tenth grade. She later graduated from Wahoo High School in 1943. She moved to Omaha and graduated from the C.E. School of Commerce in secretarial skills. On Aug. 20, 1947, Katie was united in marriage to Edward W. Nemecek at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo. It was a double wedding ceremony with her sister Marie and Dan Stoupa also being married. Katie worked at the Mead Ordinance Plant until the birth of their first child. After that, she stayed home to raise their family. Katie was a parishioner at St. Wenceslaus Church, a member of the Altar Rosary Society, St. Wenceslaus Senior Choir, the VFW Post #4502 Auxiliary and the PCCW Circle Five. She had been recognized by Secretary of State John Gale for the Poll Workers Hall of Fame for working 20 years at the polling place.

Katie is survived by her son Edward W. Nemecek Jr., Wahoo; daughters and sons in law, Alice and Ernie Volkmer, Norfolk, NE, Mary and Steve Zech, Wahoo, Ann and Rick Hellbusch, Columbus, NE, Jane and Joe Peterson, Kathy and Tony Anliker, all Omaha; 14 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sister Alice (Joe) Roh, Tekamah, NE; brother Rick (Jan) Hobza, North Bend, NE; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband Edward W. Nemecek Sr., infant brother Stephen Hobza, brother Tony Hobza, sister Marie Stoupa.
