Leo H. Smith, age 86 of Wahoo,
longtime Ithaca area farmer, died November 20, 2009 at the Saunders County
Care Center in Wahoo. He was born February 25, 1923 in rural Ithaca, NE to
John and Emma (Behrens) Smith. Leo attended School District #29 and
graduated from Wahoo High School in 1940. After graduation, he began
farming with his father near Ithaca. He was united in marriage to
Faith Dech on Oct. 17, 1943 at the home of her parents. Leo continued to farm and
later worked at the Wahoo Livestock Auction, Richter Feed Lot at Mead
and also worked as a guard at the Mead Ordinance Plant. Leo was a
former member of the Ithaca United Methodist Church where he had
served as superintendent of the Sunday School and currently was a
member of the Wahoo United Methodist Church. He had served on the
District #29 school board and was a member of the Saunders County
Historical Society.
Leo is survived by his
wife of 66 years, Faith, grandson Heath and wife Jaclyn Smith, Wahoo,
granddaughters Amanda Smith, Lincoln, NE, Alison Smith, College
Station, TX, great granddaughters, Abigail and McKenna Smith, sister
Leone Liliedahl, Wahoo, daughters in law, Bonnie Smith, Lincoln, Roma
Smith, Wahoo, nieces and nephews, Richard, Roger and Robert Lilliedahl,
and Leanne Bartek. Preceded in death by his three
sons, Alan, Kenneth and Steven.
