Delores C. "Tootie" Vasina, age 74, long time
resident of Colon died at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha Monday,
February 2, 2009.
She was born November 26, 1934 at Avoca, NE to Albert and Christina
(Meyer) Staack. She grew up in the farming community by Avoca
attending both Elmwood and Avoca High Schools and graduated from Avoca
High School in 1952. She played volleyball in high school earning
state honors as a freshman. After high school she worked at the Elgin
Watch Factory and then the Russell Stover Candy Factory, both in
Lincoln where she met Richard J. Vasina. They were married at the St.
Patrick's Catholic
Church in Manley, NE on May 16, 1959.
Delores was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the St. Ann's
Altar Sodality, Colon. She was a Past President of the Bartek Carlson
Post 265 American Legion Auxiliary in Colon and was very active with
service to veterans serving on committees on the local and state
levels. She was also a member of Dodge County Salon 358 of the 8 & 40
and the La Femmes Cabane 206, Omaha.
Delores was an avid gardener and loved flowers and plants and had the
proverbial "green thumb" She loved to bowl, bowling a 290 game at the
Wahoo Bowling Alley, the highest women's game bowled in Wahoo. She
enjoyed playing cards with her friends and was a loyal Nebraska
football fan with her husband. Her granddaughter Christina was the
light of her life.
Survivors include: her husband, a son, Rick of Colon; a daughter,
Debra (and husband, SFC Virgil) Blum of Omaha; and a granddaughter,
Christina Mary Blum, of Omaha; two sisters, RoseMary Fischer, of
Elmwood, NE Lorene (and husband LeRoy) Furry, of Manley, NE; two
brothers, Clarence "Bud" (and wife Mary Ann) Staack,of Weeping Water,
NE, Charlie(and wife Rosie) Staack, of Lincoln, NE and numerous niece,
nephews, relatives and friends
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother and
sister-in-law Harold and Leila Staack, brother-in-law, Francis Fischer
and a baby sister, Mildred.
