Stella was born to Joseph and Anastasia (Tomsicek)
Pacal. She attended grade school in Weston, NE. Following
that she worked on the farm of her parents helping with all the farm
chores. On December 27, 1944, she was united in marriage to Charles O.
Velinsky at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Omaha, NE. They
initially lived on a farm near Bruno and moved to a farm near Wann, NE
in 1949. In 1952 they moved to a farm on the north edge of Wahoo. In
1954 they moved to Colon which was Stella's home for the last 55
years. Along with being a housewife, Stella was a cook at the bar in
Colon and was a housekeeper for the rectory at St. Joseph Church and
for Dr. Wallace, Dr. Pearson and Bob Daugherty. At age 69, she began
delivering the Omaha World Herald and continued for 25 years. When she
was 94, Gov. Mike Johanns christened Stella an Admiral in the Great
Navy of Nebraska. Stella voted in every election and still carried a
valid Nebraska drivers license. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph
Catholic Church and a member of St. Ann Sodality and the Colon
American Legion Auxiliary Post #265.
Stella was survived by her sons and daughters in law, Charles and Barb
Velinsky, Frank and Barb Velinsky, all of Omaha; daughter Charlene
Roth, Morse Bluff, NE; grandchildren, Molly Jo Velinsky, Stacey and
Jill Dauel, Casey (Kerrie) Velinsky, Benjamin (Suzi) Velinsky, Kelly
(Brett) Denney, Jason (Tina) Velinsky and Renee Velinsky; many nieces
and nephews. She was preceded in death by: husband Charles O.
Velinsky, brothers Elmer, Frank and Albin, sisters Caroline, Marie,
Tillie and Mollie.
