David D. "Byrd" Andersen was born in Pilger, Nebraska on Jan. 2,
1947 to Donald and Alyce (Stoakes) Andersen. Byrd's family moved to
Mead at the time when he began fourth grade at Mead Public School.
He later graduated from Mead High School in the class of 1965 where
he excelled in football and basketball. Not long after graduation,
Byrd began his career as a plumber at the University of Nebraska
Agriculture Research and Development Center south of Mead. He
retired from there because of health issues in 2003 after 34 years
of employment. David passed away on May 13, 2010 at Immanuel
Hospital in Omaha at the age of 63 years. He will be remembered for
being an avid reader, a man who loved to watch movies, a collector
of guns and knives, but mostly that he really loved his nieces,
nephews and family.
David is survived by his
mother Alyce Andersen, Mead; sisters and brothers in law, Linda and
Kent Sweet, Mead, Sherri and Butch Roberts Jr., Rising City, NE,
Gerri Andersen, Omaha, NE, Donna and Tim Lane, McPherson, KS, Susan
and Jim Sake, Valley, NE, Alyson and David Linquist, Lake Mills, IA;
many nieces, nephews and cousins.
David
was preceded in death by his father Donald D. Andersen.
