David D. "Byrd" Andersen was born in Pilger, Nebraska on Jan. 2, 1947 to Donald and Alyce (Stoakes) Andersen. Byrd's family moved to Mead at the time when he began fourth grade at Mead Public School. He later graduated from Mead High School in the class of 1965 where he excelled in football and basketball. Not long after graduation, Byrd began his career as a plumber at the University of Nebraska Agriculture Research and Development Center south of Mead. He retired from there because of health issues in 2003 after 34 years of employment. David passed away on May 13, 2010 at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha at the age of 63 years. He will be remembered for being an avid reader, a man who loved to watch movies, a collector of guns and knives, but mostly that he really loved his nieces, nephews and family.

David is survived by his mother Alyce Andersen, Mead; sisters and brothers in law, Linda and Kent Sweet, Mead, Sherri and Butch Roberts Jr., Rising City, NE, Gerri Andersen, Omaha, NE, Donna and Tim Lane, McPherson, KS, Susan and Jim Sake, Valley, NE, Alyson and David Linquist, Lake Mills, IA; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

David was preceded in death by his father Donald D. Andersen.
