Darrol D. Hoffman, age 73, was a resident of Wahoo, NE. He passed
away June 1, 2010 at the Saunders Medical Center in Wahoo after a
courageous 18 year battle with cancer. Darrol was born in
Dodge County Community Hospital in Fremont, NE on December 17, 1936
to Raymond and Matilda (Jessen) Hoffman. He was baptized into
the Lutheran faith at a country church near Cedar Bluffs. As a child
he lived with his parents and grandparents on a farm near North Bend
before moving to Ames, NE and then west of Cedar Bluffs where he
attended St. Matthews Church and School District #34. Later they
moved to Wahoo where he attended Rural School District #28 and North
Ward Grade School. He graduated from Wahoo High School in 1954.
Darrol served as a proud member of the Nebraska National Guard from
March, 1957 to March, 1963. On June 11, 1966, he married Patricia
Holoubek and they had three children, Lisa, Laura and Randy. Darrol
was in dairying and farming with his dad for a number of years.
After retiring from farming he worked for the Saunders County
Sheriff's office as a Correctional Officer for almost 18 years. He
enjoyed this work very much. Other jobs he held during the years
were working at the Onion Plant, the University of NE ARDC at Mead
and the Wahoo Sale Barn. Darrol was a people person and loved to
talk and meet new people. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards and his
many Branson bus trips with relatives and friends. He loved "going
to the boats", spending time with his wife, children and
grandchildren. Win or lose, he was an AVID Red Sox fan. In 2005 he
converted to Catholicism. He was a parishioner at St. Wenceslaus
Catholic Church.
Darrol is survived by his wife Patricia; children, Lisa and Curt
Krueger, Lincoln, NE, Laura and Tim Warrelmann, Malcolm, NE, Randy
and Anne Hoffman, Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Christopher, Catherine,
Anna, David and Steven Krueger, Grace and Elizabeth "Libby" Hoffman;
sister and brother in law, Velva and Lyle Christensen, Wahoo, NE;
aunt, Dorothy Hynek, Fremont, NE; nieces and numerous cousins.
Preceded in death by his parents.
