Alice A. Martin

Alice A. (Suellwold) Martin, age 91, was a long time resident of Wahoo, Nebraska. She passed away  Sunday, February 14, 2010 in Lincoln, Nebraska.  Alice was born on December 4, 1918 in Seward, Nebraska to Otto and Georgia (Thom) Suellwold.  She graduated from Seward High School in 1936 where she was an all-state softball pitcher and basketball player. Her love of sports continued throughout her life.  Alice was an avid pitch player, a superb cook, creative seamstress and enjoyed quilting and needlework. She married her best friend and love of her life Paul Martin on April 12, 1940 in Oakland, California. Paul and Alice lived on a farm near Wahoo until their retirement. She taught school and later worked at the Saunders County Community Hospital for many years until retiring in 1983. Alice was member of  St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, past president of the Woman's Club at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and was a member of the Altar Rosary Society.

Alice was preceded in death by  her husband Paul in 1990, brothers Chester and Floyd, sisters, Henrietta, Lucille, Ruth and Jean. Left to cherish her memory are her son and daughter in law, Patrick (Beverly) Martin, Wahoo, NE, daughters and sons in law, Kathleen (Joe) Ward, Lake Jackson, TX, Mary (Jim) Kanter, Julie (Cody) Ramel all of Lincoln, NE, 15 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, brother in law, Landis Borchers, Lincoln, NE, sisters in law, Phyllis Martin, Omaha, NE, Doris Suellwold, Margaret Suellwold both of Garland, NE, numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial is Friday (2/19/2010) at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Wahoo Clergy: Rev. Lothar Gilde. Casket Bearers: Patrick Martin, Jr., Ryan Martin, Troy Kanter, Brian Kanter, Justin Woita, John Martin. Honorary Bearers: Mike Martin, Jim Martin, Tim Martin, Daniel Ward, Thomas Ward, Laurie Woita, Julia Ward, Kalli Olson, Alison Hite and Michelle Dynes. Interment: St. Francis Cemetery, Wahoo. Visitation: Thursday 2-8 PM with an Altar Rosary Society Rosary at 3:00 PM and Parish rosary at 6:30 PM, all at Svoboda Funeral Home & continuing on Friday one hour before the service at the church.
