Archie R. Nash, age 87, died February 14, 2010 at the Saunders County
Care Center in Wahoo. He was born in Ceresco, NE on December 9, 1922
to Leslie and Edna (Norris) Nash Archie's family moved from Ceresco to
Ithaca, NE in 1927 and he went to school at Ithaca through the tenth grade.
He graduated from high school at Wahoo Public High School and three days
after graduation, enlisted in the US Navy. He was stationed at the the Naval
Airstation in Ft. Lauderdale, FL where he met and married Dorothy Howell of
Hahiva, Georgia on March 23, 1943. He was an airplane mechanic in the Navy
and was hit by friendly fire with shrapnel in his back. Archie received the
American Defense Medal, the Victory War II Medal, the Good Conduct Medal,
the Presidential Unit Citation 2 Stars Medal and the Philippine Island
Liberation Medal. When Archie completed his six years of service, they moved
to Ithaca where Dorothy had been living with his parents. He worked with his
father in the corn shelling business until 1951 when he went to work for the
city of Wahoo at the light plant. Archie worked there for 36 years and was
the plant supervisor when he retired. Archie worked on small planes and did
so until his health forced him to quit. He was a private pilot and would fly
whenever he had a chance. Archie was a member of the VFW Post #4502 and was
an eighteen year member of the Wahoo Fire Department hose company #1. He
held offices for several years in the Fire Department and was also active
with the rescue squad. Archie also belonged to The Wahoo Squadron.
Archie was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy, son Orvin Nash,
and infant brother, and a sister Virginia Norwood. He is survived by his son
Gary Nash, Wahoo, grandsons Leslie Nash, Shawn and his wife Maggie Nash,
daughter in law Charlene Nash, great grandchildren Allison and Andrew Nash,
all of Loveland, CO.
Funeral Service: Thursday, Febr. 18, 2010, 10:30 AM at Svoboda Funeral Home.
Clergy: Pastor Steven Herman . Casket Bearers: Members of the VFW and
American Legion of Wahoo. Interment: Sunrise Cemetery with military honors
by VFW Post #4502 and American Legion Post #82. Visitation: Wednesday, 4:00
– 7:00 P.M. at Svoboda Funeral Home and one hour before services Thursday.
