Daryl D. Reitmajer was born in Prague, Nebraska on February 5, 1939 to Joseph and Bessie (Junek) Reitmajer. Daryl attended grade school in Prague until his family moved to Wahoo. He finished grade school in Wahoo and graduated from Wahoo High School in 1957. Daryl enrolled in an aeronautical school in Kansas City, Missouri and had finished when he was called to serve in the National Guard. He also served in the US Army in 1961 and 1962. When he returned from the service, he began working at Western Electric in Omaha, where he retired from after forty-two years. On November 24, 1964, Daryl was united in marriage to Venis Placek at First Presbyterian Church in Wahoo. Wahoo was always their home and they raised their two children, Daniel and Dawn there. Daryl was a longtime Boy Scout Leader, a member of the Wahoo Eagles Club, American Legion Post #82 and served many years on the Wahoo Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department. He served as Wahoo's mayor from 1981–1989 and 2002–2009. He was a Wahoo City Council member from 1976–1981, served on the City Board of Adjustments and was a former President of the Nebraska League of Municipalities. Daryl enjoyed air boating on the Platte River, skeet shooting, polka, waltz and big band dancing and playing cards. He will be remembered for his devotion of service to the city of Wahoo.


Daryl leaves behind his wife Venis; son Daniel D. (Donna) Reitmajer; daughter Dawn D. (Jay Pabian) Reitmajer; grandchildren Ginny, Daniel E., Deanna and Donovan; great grandchildren Malachite and Poppy; nieces and nephews; special niece and nephew Kim and Johnnie Ried. Preceding him in death are his parents and brother Harvey Reitmajer.
