Paul Theodore "Ted" Skovgaard was born on August 3, 1918 in LaMoure County,
North Dakota to Andrew and Mabel (Mart) Skovgaard. After graduating
from Grand Rapids High School in North Dakota, he helped his father
work on the farm until he was 25 years old. At that time he went on
his own farming, ranching and doing carpenter work in the area. In
1945, he was married to Jesse Wollerman with whom he had three
children, Gary, Steve and Carol.
Ted later moved to Colon, NE and on February 15, 1959, he was married
to Mabel Spoonhour and had one daughter, Lorna.
Ted worked for Harold Manstedt Construction for a few years and
then began his own construction company, Skovgaard Construction. He
stayed busy building houses and doing remodeling for many years until
he and Mabel moved to Wahoo in 2001.
Ted went home to God on December 4, 2010 at the Saunders County Care
Center in Wahoo at the age of 92 years. Ted had been a member of
Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he served on the council and was
active in the church choir. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #59 AF &
AM in Wahoo and had been a mason in Fremont, NE and in North Dakota,
totaling over 65 years as a mason. Ted was a former member of the
Cedar Bluffs Lions Club and the Pathfinder Men's Chorus in Fremont. He
also served as mayor of Colon for many years and was the utilities
manager of Colon for many years. Ted was always willing to help the
elderly with all kinds of "fix up" repairs in their homes. He loved
music and singing and played the harmonica, guitar and accordian and
was also excellent at yodeling.
Ted is survived by his daughters and sons in law, Lorna and Kevin
Klahn of Mead, NE, Carol and Jerry Greenwood of Cavalier, North
Dakota; his sons and daughter in law, Gary Skovgaard of Neche, North
Dakota, Steve and Debbie Skovgaard of Milton, North Dakota; his step
