In care of the family

Richard L. Tweedy was born near Verdel, Nebraska on his family's farm on April 9, 1949 to Fred and Emma (Buskirk) Tweedy. His father died when Richard was only two years old. The family moved to Saunders County and he attended schools in Weston and Ithaca, Nebraska. Richard started working at an early age. He worked for Consolidated Blenders in Mead, which was known as the alfalfa mill, for many years. On Mar. 26, 1968, he was united in marriage to Norma Vanek in Yankton, South Dakota. They made their home in Mead and Ashland, Nebraska for many years. After living in Omaha for seventeen years, they moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa four years ago. Richard worked with his son Ross, calling their business TNT Construction, doing commercial and residential roofing. Richard always kept a positive attitude and was always willing to help anyone in need. When the local mission would be closed, he and Norma helped many people with a place to stay and something to eat. Richard had recently been baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith.

Richard is survived by his wife Norma; sons and daughters in law, Rodney, Greensboro, NC, Richard and Anne, Colon, NE, Russell and Tina, Orlando, FL, and Ross of Council Bluffs, IA; eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sisters Delores LaCroix, Crofton, NE and Sharon (Lawrence) Kaiser, Ceresco, NE; brother Kenneth Tweedy, Ames, NE; sister in law Pearl Tweedy; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marion, Ben and Harold; sisters, Darlene LaCroix, Etta Barber, and Donna Milliken; and infant siblings, Fred Jr. and Betty Ann.
